OEE management and change management in the production system

The 7th meeting of the Production Systems Community (PSC) took place on the 29th and 30th of June – finally physically! We want to thank our premium member and hosts from Phoenix Contact who helped make the PSC meeting a great success.

This time the members of the PSC met in Blomberg and Schieder. In Blomberg, we started with an exciting tour of the factory and a presentation of the Phoenix Contact production system. The following day we visited the site in Schieder. Highlights of this day were interesting workshops with thought-provoking discussions on the topic of “OEE management and change management in the production system”, short keynotes and an exciting guest lecture. The following key learnings of the 7th PSC Meeting resulted from the impulses and discussions:

▶️ OEE recording: High automation reduces manual effort, but also inhibits employee integration (OEE understanding, integration of contextual knowledge)
▶️ OEE analysis: Automated standard reporting enables daily transparency in short time (in our case: 15min per day)
▶️ OEE improvement: standard assignment (incl. prioritization) of measures accelerates solution finding and controlling

▶️ OEE improvement: standard assignment (incl. prioritization) of measures accelerates solution finding and controlling
▶️ Gamification: Motivation through the integration of playful incentives in the work processes; the basis nevertheless remains appreciation and an open door policy for employees

We would like to thank all participants who helped to shape this PSC meeting and made it so exciting and interesting. Our special thanks go to our hosts at Phoenix Contact, who gave us a great insight into their factory in Blomberg and welcomed us with great hospitality. We would also like to thank Sebastian Marchante for his exciting guest lecture on the topic “Change Management in production”! We are already looking forward to the next PSC meeting (on October 25/26)!

The Production Systems Community (PSC)

Members of the Production Systems Community (PSC) rely on knowledge exchange for the design and implementation of production systems in the context of Industry 4.0. The focus of the activities is on company visits in order to experience and discuss the complexity of production systems in a tangible way. The exchange is further enriched by the scientific findings of the WZL at RWTH Aachen University.

The visits and discussions are organized and moderated by employees of the PSC member companies. Participants also have an opportunity to get to know each other at evening events, which helps develop strong ties built on trust. This format has proved effective since the founding of the PSC and specifically in a year-long industrial joint project, the consortial benchmarking “Production Systems 4.0”.

With the consortium benchmarking “Production Systems 4.0”, the WZL of RWTH Aachen University ties in with a series of benchmarking projects relating to production systems. Together with an industry consortium, we have identified concepts, methods and procedures from Successful-Practice-Companies and discerned knowledge on how production systems can promote process innovations and increase agility in the future.
